Forex market holidays 2026 and 2027
When the big trading centres close, what that means for liquidity in each currency, and the clock changes that move release times in UK time.

The forex market does not close for most public holidays: it trades from Sunday evening to Friday evening UK time, and when London, New York, Tokyo or Sydney is shut the market stays open but liquidity in that currency is thinner. The exceptions are Christmas Day and New Year's Day, when most brokers close or offer only very limited trading.
The tables below list every weekday closure in the four main centres for 2026 and 2027, the US early closes, and the clock changes that shift release and session times in UK time. Past dates are greyed out. Your broker's own holiday hours always take precedence.

Is forex open on Christmas Day and New Year's Day?
In practice, no. Banks in London, New York and Sydney are closed on 25 December and 1 January, and most brokers close their platforms or offer very limited trading on those days. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are open but thin: US bond markets close early at 2pm New York time (SIFMA recommendation), many dealers leave early, and spreads can be much wider than usual. Weekend and holiday gaps are a real risk; read slippage, gaps and weekend risk.
Is forex open on UK bank holidays and US holidays?
Yes. On a UK bank holiday, such as Easter Monday or the late summer bank holiday, the market trades as normal in the other centres, but GBP pairs and EUR/GBP see less volume during the London morning. On US holidays such as Thanksgiving or Independence Day, there are no US data releases and the New York afternoon is quiet, which affects USD pairs and gold. On Columbus Day and Veterans Day US bond markets are closed while US stocks trade. In Japan, Golden Week (29 April to 5 May) and the year-end break (31 December to 3 January) thin out JPY trading.
Thin markets do not always mean quiet markets: with fewer orders, a surprise headline can move prices further than usual. Many traders reduce position size or avoid new trades on these days.
UK and US clock changes 2026 and 2027
The UK, the US and Australia change their clocks on different dates. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the gap between London and New York is four hours instead of five, which moves US release times and the New York session one hour earlier in UK time.

In 2026 and 2027 London is four hours ahead of New York, instead of the usual five, from 8 March 2026 to 28 March 2026; 25 October 2026 to 31 October 2026; 14 March 2027 to 27 March 2027; 31 October 2027 to 6 November 2027. In those weeks US data due at 8:30am New York time comes out at 12:30 UK time, the New York stock market opens at 13:30 UK time, and the FOMC statement lands at 18:00 UK time.
