USD/CHF pip value by lot size

The pip value in the quote currency is fixed: pip size × units traded. One standard lot of 100,000 USD × 0.0001 = 10 CHF per pip. Because the dollar is the base currency, a USD account converts 10 CHF into dollars at the current price: 10 ÷ 0.8207 = $12.18 per standard lot at the reference price of 0.8207. The value moves as the rate moves.

A buy on USD/CHF at 0.8207 that closes at 0.8257 has moved 50 pips. On 0.10 lots that is 50 × 1.00 CHF = 50.00 CHF, or about $60.92 for a USD account at the reference rate.

USD/CHF pip value in pounds

A USD/CHF pip is worth 10 Swiss francs per standard lot. On a sterling account those francs are converted at GBP/CHF, which is GBP/USD multiplied by USD/CHF. At the reference rates, 1.3394 × 0.8207 gives about 1.0992, so a pip is worth 10 ÷ 1.0992, about £9.10 per standard lot.

Why the pip gets more valuable as USD/CHF falls

Because the dollar is the base currency, the pip value in dollars is 10 francs divided by the USD/CHF price. When the franc strengthens and USD/CHF falls, each franc buys more dollars and more pounds, so each pip is worth more. With GBP/USD unchanged, USD/CHF at 0.8500 would give about £8.78 per pip, and at 0.8000 about £9.33. If you hold a position while the pair falls sharply, the money value per pip rises with it.

Sizing a USD/CHF trade

Example only. The figures below are illustrative, use the reference rates dated 22 October 2026 and are not a trade or a result.

Risking £100 with a 35 pip stop: 35 × £9.10 = £318.50 per lot, so £100 ÷ £318.50 = 0.31 lots, about £98.74 at risk. For the same pound risk this is a smaller position than on USD/JPY or USD/CAD, because each USD/CHF pip is worth more.

Gap risk and the Swiss National Bank

The franc is often bought when markets are under stress, and the SNB rate decision is held only once a quarter, so each one can carry more weight. On 15 January 2015 the SNB removed its minimum exchange rate against the euro without warning; the franc jumped within minutes and many stop orders were filled far from their levels. Our guide to slippage, gaps and weekend risk explains why that happens.
