The pip value in the quote currency is fixed: pip size × units traded. One standard lot of 100,000 AUD × 0.0001 = 10 USD per pip. Because the quote currency is the dollar, the pip value for a USD account is fixed at $10 per standard lot whatever the price.

Worked example
A buy on AUD/USD at 0.7018 that closes at 0.7068 has moved 50 pips. On 0.10 lots that is 50 × 1.00 USD = 50.00 USD, or about $50.00 for a USD account at the reference rate.
What moves AUD/USD
The pair reflects policy at the Reserve Bank of Australia and the US Federal Reserve. Drivers that often move it include Australian jobs and inflation data, Chinese economic data and commodity prices. Activity is usually highest during the Sydney and Tokyo sessions, when Australian data is released, and the New York session; see the market hours clock for the times in your zone.
AUD/USD pip value in pounds and how it compares
AUD/USD is quoted in dollars, so a pip is $10 per standard lot and on a sterling account it is worth $10 ÷ GBP/USD. At the reference rate of 1.3394 that is about £7.47, the same as EUR/USD, GBP/USD and NZD/USD, because all four share the dollar as the quote currency. The price of AUD/USD itself does not change the pip value; GBP/USD does.
Leverage on AUD/USD is lower for UK retail clients
The FCA's retail rules cap leverage at 30:1 only on major pairs made from the US dollar, euro, yen, pound, Canadian dollar and Swiss franc. The Australian dollar is not on that list, so AUD/USD is capped at 20:1, a margin of 5% rather than 3.33%. One standard lot is 100,000 Australian dollars, about $70,180 at the reference price of 0.7018, or about £52,397. At 5% that is roughly £2,620 of margin. Check your broker's figure in the margin calculator, and see leverage and margin explained.
Sizing an AUD/USD trade
Example only. The figures below are illustrative, use the reference rates dated 22 October 2026 and are not a trade or a result.
Risking £100 with a 25 pip stop: 25 × £7.47 = £186.75 per lot, so £100 ÷ £186.75 = 0.53 lots after rounding down, about £98.98 at risk.
Australian data and RBA rate decisions arrive in the Asian session, which is overnight or early morning in the UK, so a position held overnight can move while you are away from the screen. AUD/USD also tends to move with NZD/USD, so holding both adds up the risk; the correlation tool shows how closely they have moved together. The AUD/USD guide and the AUD/USD weekly forecast cover the drivers, and the trade history and verify page show every closed Forexuro trade.
