AUD/USD prices one Australian dollar in US dollars. The Australian dollar, or aussie, is linked to commodity exports such as iron ore and to China's economy, Australia's largest trading partner. It is often treated as a barometer of global risk appetite.
How the quote works
A quote of 0.7020 means one Australian dollar buys 0.7020 US dollars. One pip is 0.0001, worth 10 dollars on a standard lot. New to quotes? Read how to read a forex quote and the glossary entries for pip and lot.
When it trades
AUD/USD is active in the Asian session, when Australian and Chinese data are released, and again in London and New York. Reserve Bank of Australia decisions are announced at 2:30pm Sydney time, which is the early morning in the UK.

What moves AUD/USD
- RBA policy. Expectations for the Reserve Bank of Australia drive the domestic side. In October 2026 comments from RBA officials that the inflation outlook had worsened raised the chance of a November hike.
- Australian inflation and jobs. Quarterly CPI and the monthly labour force survey are the key releases.
- China and commodities. Chinese growth data and prices of iron ore and other exports influence the aussie.
- Global risk appetite. The aussie tends to gain when stocks rise and investors seek yield, and to fall in risk-off episodes.
- US dollar. US data and the Fed drive the other side of the pair.

Volatility explained
AUD/USD reacts strongly to Australian CPI and jobs data, RBA meetings and Chinese releases, many of which arrive in the Asian night for European traders. Liquidity is thinner in those hours. Measure current conditions with ATR before sizing trades.
Forexuro does not publish a fixed "average daily range" for AUD/USD here, because any such number goes out of date quickly and depends on the period chosen. Measure it on your own platform over the window you trade.
Pip value and position size
Use the AUD/USD pip value calculator to see what one pip is worth in your account currency, then the position size calculator to turn your risk and stop into lots. Keeping risk per trade small, often 1% or less, is the main protection against a run of losses; see risk management for traders.
