NZD/USD prices one New Zealand dollar in US dollars. The kiwi is a smaller, commodity linked currency tied to dairy and agricultural exports, and like the Australian dollar it is sensitive to global risk appetite and to China.
How the quote works
A quote of 0.5690 means one New Zealand dollar buys 0.5690 US dollars. One pip is 0.0001, worth 10 dollars on a standard lot. New to quotes? Read how to read a forex quote and the glossary entries for pip and lot.
When it trades
New Zealand data and Reserve Bank of New Zealand decisions arrive very early in the global trading day, often late evening or overnight for European traders. The pair is also active in London and New York.

What moves NZD/USD
- RBNZ policy. The Official Cash Rate and RBNZ guidance are the main domestic driver.
- New Zealand inflation and jobs. Quarterly CPI and labour market data shape rate expectations.
- Dairy and commodity prices. Dairy is New Zealand's largest export category.
- Risk appetite and China. Like the aussie, the kiwi tends to follow global risk mood and Chinese demand.

Volatility explained
NZD/USD is less liquid than the big majors, so spreads can be wider, particularly in thin hours, and moves around RBNZ decisions can be abrupt. Measure volatility with ATR and allow for wider costs.
Forexuro does not publish a fixed "average daily range" for NZD/USD here, because any such number goes out of date quickly and depends on the period chosen. Measure it on your own platform over the window you trade.
Pip value and position size
Use the NZD/USD pip value calculator to see what one pip is worth in your account currency, then the position size calculator to turn your risk and stop into lots. Keeping risk per trade small, often 1% or less, is the main protection against a run of losses; see risk management for traders.
