NZD/USD pip value calculator

What one pip on NZD/USD is worth for your lot size, in USD, GBP or EUR, with the pair's pip size, contract specification and what moves it.

NZD/USD pip size and contract specification

NZD/USD is the price of one New Zealand dollar in US dollars. The pair is often nicknamed "kiwi". It often moves in the same direction as AUD/USD, so holding both doubles similar exposure.

NZD/USD pip value by lot size

The pip value in the quote currency is fixed: pip size × units traded. One standard lot of 100,000 NZD × 0.0001 = 10 USD per pip. Because the quote currency is the dollar, the pip value for a USD account is fixed at $10 per standard lot whatever the price.

Worked example

A buy on NZD/USD at 0.5680 that closes at 0.5730 has moved 50 pips. On 0.10 lots that is 50 × 1.00 USD = 50.00 USD, or about $50.00 for a USD account at the reference rate.

What moves NZD/USD

The pair reflects policy at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the US Federal Reserve. Drivers that often move it include New Zealand data, dairy prices and Chinese demand. Activity is usually highest during the Sydney and Tokyo sessions, when New Zealand data is released; see the market hours clock for the times in your zone.

NZD/USD pip value in pounds

NZD/USD is quoted in dollars, so a pip is $10 per standard lot whatever the kiwi's price. On a sterling account that is converted at GBP/USD: $10 ÷ 1.3394, about £7.47 per standard lot at the reference rate. A move in NZD/USD itself does not change the pip value, but a move in GBP/USD does.

Margin on NZD/USD for UK retail clients

The New Zealand dollar is not one of the six currencies in the FCA's definition of a major pair, so retail leverage on NZD/USD is capped at 20:1, a margin of 5%. One standard lot of 100,000 NZD is about $56,800 at the reference price of 0.5680, or about £42,407, which needs roughly £2,120 of margin. A lower price means a smaller position value, so the margin per lot is lower than on AUD/USD even though the pip value is the same. The margin calculator uses current rates.

Adding up AUD/USD and NZD/USD risk

Example only. The figures below are illustrative, use the reference rates dated 22 October 2026 and are not a trade or a result.

Say you hold 0.30 lots of NZD/USD and 0.30 lots of AUD/USD, both bought, each with a 30 pip stop. Each trade risks 0.30 × 30 × £7.47 = £67.23. Because the two pairs often move in the same direction, it is safer to plan for both stops being hit together: a combined risk of about £134.46. If your limit is £100 a trade, you would cut both positions so the total stays near that figure. The correlation tool shows how closely the pairs have moved together and the position size calculator works out the lots.

RBNZ rate decisions are announced at 2:00 pm New Zealand time, which is between about 01:00 and 03:00 UK time depending on daylight saving in both countries, so the move often happens while UK traders are asleep. Spreads on NZD/USD are often wider than on EUR/USD, so include the spread when you set your stop. The NZD/USD guide and the NZD/USD weekly forecast cover the pair, and the trade history and verify page show every closed Forexuro trade.
