EUR/GBP pip value by lot size

The pip value in the quote currency is fixed: pip size × units traded. One standard lot of 100,000 EUR × 0.0001 = 10 GBP per pip. Profit is paid in pounds, so a USD account converts £10 per standard lot into dollars: about $13.39 at the reference rates. A GBP account receives a fixed £10 per pip per lot.

A buy on EUR/GBP at 0.8373 that closes at 0.8423 has moved 50 pips. On 0.10 lots that is 50 × 1.00 GBP = 50.00 GBP, or about $66.97 for a USD account at the reference rate.

What moves EUR/GBP

The pair reflects policy at the European Central Bank and the Bank of England. Drivers that often move it include euro-area and UK inflation and growth data. Activity is usually highest during the London session; see the market hours clock for the times in your zone.

Why EUR/GBP is the simplest pip value for a UK account

EUR/GBP is quoted in pounds, so on a sterling account there is no conversion at all: one pip is £10 per standard lot, £1 per mini lot and £0.10 per micro lot, and that does not change with the exchange rate. Profit and loss on the trade lands in your account in the same currency it is earned in.

The euro side still matters for margin. The position's value is 100,000 euros per standard lot, which is £83,730 at the reference rate of 0.8373. EUR/GBP counts as a major pair under the FCA's retail rules, because both currencies are on the regulator's list, so the 30:1 leverage cap applies and the minimum margin is about £2,791 per lot at that rate. The margin calculator uses current prices.

Sizing a EUR/GBP trade

Example only. The figures below are illustrative, use the reference rates dated 22 October 2026 and are not a trade or a result.

With a fixed £10 per pip per lot the maths is short. Risking £100 with a 20 pip stop: 20 × £10 = £200 per lot, and £100 ÷ £200 = 0.50 lots. Because the pair often moves in a narrower range than GBP/USD, stops in pips tend to be tighter, so the lot size for the same pound risk can be larger. That makes it easy to overlook the margin each lot uses, so check both numbers before you trade.

Events that move EUR/GBP

As a cross with no US dollar, EUR/GBP reacts mainly to the gap between the two economies. The ECB rate decision, the Bank of England rate decision and UK CPI are the key dates. US releases tend to move EUR/USD and GBP/USD together, so they often matter less here.
