Support and resistance in forex and gold: how to mark and trade the levels
Gold signals explained: how our gold signals work · every closed gold signal
Support and resistance are the simplest map on a forex or gold chart: zones where price has turned before, and where traders still watch for the next turn or break. You do not need a crowded indicator panel to use them. You need honest zones, a plan for holds versus breaks, and a stop that sits beyond the zone.
This guide shows how to mark levels on EUR/USD and gold, how to avoid painting every tick as a level, and how risk still comes first. Our free Telegram channel posts signals with the same entry, stop and target discipline.

What support and resistance actually are
Support is a zone where buyers have absorbed selling in the past. Resistance is a zone where sellers have capped a rally. They are zones, not single pip lines. On major pairs a zone can span 10 to 30 pips; on gold it can span several dollars.

Round numbers often sit inside those zones because orders cluster there, but a round number alone is not enough. Prefer highs and lows that price has tested more than once. Our major pairs guide lists the pairs where those zones are watched most closely.
How to mark levels without clutter
Start on the daily chart. Mark the last two or three swing highs and lows that are obvious without squinting. Drop to the 4 hour chart to refine the zone edges. Ignore the 5 minute noise until you have a live trade plan.
If two levels sit close together, merge them into one wider zone. Too many lines is how traders talk themselves into every bounce. A clean chart with three zones beats twenty lines that all look important.
Trend context still matters. In a clear uptrend, rising support zones are where buyers often reload. In a clear downtrend, falling resistance zones are where sellers lean. See chart patterns for how zones meet flags and ranges.
Hold, break and false break
A hold is a rejection from the zone that leaves the prior trend story intact. A break is a close beyond the zone with follow through in the next sessions, not a single spike that snaps back. A false break is a spike through the zone that fails and traps late entrants.

Gold false breaks are common around round thousands and around US data. Wait for the candle close on your trading timeframe before you treat a spike as a break. Gold today and gold price today help you see where the live price sits against recent ranges.
Stops, targets and risk at a level
If you buy a support hold, the stop belongs below the zone, not in the middle of it. If you sell a resistance hold, the stop belongs above the zone. The distance from entry to stop sets the lot size once you fix risk per trade near 1%.
Targets often sit at the next opposite zone, or at a measured move from the range height. Forexuro signals use three targets so part of the size can come off early. Read take profit and stop loss, risk per trade and lot size calculation, and use the position size calculator.
A worked signal shape at a level
On 30 September 2026 the Forexuro channel closed an AUD/USD buy at 0.6959 with a stop at 0.6903 and targets at 0.6979, 0.6995 and 0.7011. The stop sat beyond the local swing, and the third target was reached for 52 pips. The lesson is the structure: the invalidation level was public before the trade ran.
| Level | Price | Distance |
|---|---|---|
| Entry (buy) | 0.6959 | |
| Stop | 0.6903 | 56 pips |
| TP1 | 0.6979 | 20 pips |
| TP2 | 0.6995 | 36 pips |
| TP3 (reached) | 0.7011 | 52 pips |

Sessions and when levels matter most
Support and resistance on EUR/USD and GBP/USD matter most in London and in the London to New York overlap. Gold levels often wake up into US data. Trading a major pair level in a quiet hour pays the spread for little movement. Check market sessions and London and New York sessions.
News can smash a level without respect. Into the RBA, the Bank of England or US payrolls, either flatten or widen risk deliberately. Do not pretend a technical zone cancels a central bank print. See central bank rate decisions. For this month's release, see our November 2026 NFP preview.
Follow levels with Forexuro
The free Forexuro Telegram channel posts free signals every trading day, usually between about 05:00 and 15:00 UK time, each with entry, stop and three targets. VIP is £99 a month or £549 one time for more signals and live management. Trading carries risk, and past results are not a reliable guide to future results.

Frequently asked questions
Is support a single price or a zone?
A zone. Mark a band around the swing area rather than one pip line.
How do I know a break is real?
Look for a close beyond the zone with follow through, not only a spike that snaps back.
Where should the stop go?
Beyond the zone that defines the idea, then size the lot from that distance and your risk percent.
Do levels work on gold the same way as on EUR/USD?
Yes in structure, but gold zones are wider in dollar terms and react hard to US data.
