Contracts, futures only. Non-commercial from the Legacy report. Leveraged funds and asset managers from the Traders in Financial Futures report; for gold the leveraged funds column shows managed money from the Disaggregated report, which has no asset manager group. Percentiles and COT index (3 years) use the non-commercial net position. Last column: non-commercial net over 52 weeks. * Gold: managed money. Download this table as latest.csv.
How to read the COT table
Non-commercial net is the long minus the short positions of traders the CFTC classes as non-commercial, mostly funds and other speculators. Change is the difference from the previous week. Leveraged funds (hedge funds and commodity trading advisers) and asset managers (pension funds, insurers, mutual funds) split speculative money into faster and slower players. For gold, managed money is the closest equivalent to leveraged funds.
The 52-week and 3-year percentiles show the share of other weeks in that window with a lower non-commercial net position. The COT index scales this week's position inside its 3-year range, from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest). We flag 90 or more as extreme long and 10 or less as extreme short. For the yen, Canadian dollar and Swiss franc the futures are priced per unit of that currency, so a net long is a position for a stronger yen, loonie or franc, which means a lower USD/JPY, USD/CAD or USD/CHF.
What is the Commitments of Traders report?
The Commitments of Traders (COT) report is a weekly breakdown of open positions in US futures markets, published by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Every trader above a reporting threshold has to report positions to the CFTC, which groups them by type of trader. The report comes in three versions used on this page: the Legacy report (commercial, non-commercial and non-reportable traders, the longest history), the Traders in Financial Futures report for currencies and other financial contracts (dealers, asset managers, leveraged funds) and the Disaggregated report for commodities such as gold (producers and merchants, swap dealers, managed money). We use the futures-only versions.
Forex itself trades over the counter and has no central position data, so the CME currency futures are one of the few public, regulated records of how large traders are positioned on the major currencies. They are only part of the market, and positions held through spot, forwards and options outside the exchange are not included.
When is the COT report released? (UK time)
Positions are measured at the close of trading on Tuesday and the CFTC normally publishes the report on Friday at 15:30 Eastern Time. That is 20:30 UK time for most of the year. For a few weeks in March, and from the last Sunday of October to the first Sunday of November, the US and UK clocks are out of step and the release is at 19:30 UK time. When a US federal holiday falls in the week, the CFTC usually publishes on the following Monday instead; its release schedule lists the dates. The next report, for Tuesday 3 November 2026, is due Friday 6 November 2026 at 15:30 ET (20:30 UK time).
What COT data can and cannot tell you
COT data shows how positions were built, not why, and it arrives three days late. Large net positions can persist for months while the price keeps moving in the same direction, and extreme readings have sometimes come before reversals and sometimes not. Each market page on Forexuro counts what actually followed past extremes in that market, with the number of cases, so you can judge the evidence yourself. Use it as background next to price, rates and the economic calendar, not as a trading signal on its own.

Frequently asked questions
When is the COT report released?
The CFTC normally publishes it every Friday at 15:30 Eastern Time, which is 20:30 UK time for most of the year and 19:30 UK time in the short spells in March and in late October and early November when US and UK clocks change on different dates. When a US public holiday falls in the week, the release usually moves to the following Monday.
Why is COT data as of Tuesday?
Large traders report their positions to the CFTC as of the close on Tuesday. The CFTC checks and compiles the reports and publishes them three days later, so the figures are already three days old when they appear.
What is the COT index?
It places the latest net position inside its own range over a lookback period: 0 is the lowest reading in the window and 100 the highest. Forexuro uses 156 weeks (3 years) and flags 90 or more as extreme long and 10 or less as extreme short.
Which group should I follow for currencies, leveraged funds or non-commercials?
Non-commercials come from the Legacy report and have the longest history. Leveraged funds (hedge funds and CTAs) and asset managers come from the Traders in Financial Futures report and split the same speculative money into faster and slower players. This page shows all three.
